This simple, easy-to-follow Zen-type meditation is suitable for everyone, but it's a particularly good introduction for beginners. Clear explanations and guidance are given throughout. Useful spaces are created to develop an awareness of one's own journey. Zen is simplified here to mean a cultivation of an open awareness of oneself - a state of alertness to one's nature and an appreciation of the existence of one's energy, whilst residing mentally in a place of stillness and peace.

Zen in ten.

Essentially,

Zen is about a state of being.

It's about being in the moment,

Being mindful,

Being careful to put space between things,

Being able to do one thing at a time,

Slowly and deliberately.

Ironically,

In order to fully understand and experience it,

We should release all focused aspirations of reaching a Zen state.

Instead,

We will merge our energy,

Our thoughts and our actions into one state of being.

So let's begin.

You need to be completely comfortable in an upright position where your body can maintain a good posture.

Once I'm seated,

I like to stretch my arms and my upper body to release any kinks in my back and shoulders.

And then I picture my vertebrae settling down one on top of the other,

Like building blocks.

In your own time,

Take one long breath in and hold it.

Then slowly release your breath as you lower your gaze to the floor or gently close your eyes.

It's important to breathe in and out through the nose.

But if you're unable to do this,

Then breathe slowly and gently through slightly parted lips and give your full attention to each and every breath.

Remain within this still and peaceful place as you consciously let go of all other distractions.

Let go.

Let go.

Create for yourself as much stillness and space between your floating thoughts and remain in that space.

Continue to observe each breath in and then during each breath out,

Intentionally send slow,

Peaceful waves of love,

Healing and tranquility from your head down through your body.

Return your full attention to the breath in and the breath out.

On some level,

You will be aware that negative issues,

Stale emotions and old anxieties that you had been holding onto have traveled down inside your body and sunk into the floor below you.

Breathe in through your nose slowly and deeply and exhale fully and completely.

Experience the relief of letting go and bringing healing to yourself.

Feel the joy of sitting in a state of natural peace and stillness and simply being.

I'm going to ask you to remain in this beautiful state of love and tranquility,

Focusing only on your moment to moment breathing.

I will prompt you from time to time to bring your attention back to your breath.

But relax now in your still place and I will come back for you.

Allow the temperature of the air to hold your attention as it enters and leaves your body.

I Wars today.

Remain focused on the energy of the breath in and the breath out.

Remain focused on the energy of the breath in and the breath out.

Now begin to breathe in more deeply through your mouth.

Big deep breaths of fresh air.

Allow your alertness and your awareness levels to rise.

And being very kind and gentle with yourself,

Slowly,

Slowly bring yourself back to the place where you sit.

When you feel ready to do so,

Open your eyes and give yourself a moment.

Namaste my fellow spiritual traveller.

I like the pace and length of this meditation. I used it today for nadi shodhana, and the gentle "bring backs" were perfectly placed. I made sure to file it in a folder to return to this gem of Zen. โœจ thank you๐Ÿ’ซ

That was the best โ€˜failedโ€™ meditation Iโ€™ve had. Iโ€™m dealing with my partner being in the ICU and having memory issues from seizures. This helped me let out lots of emotions, brought me to a good cry. Her service animal tried to cheer me up. It was a beautiful mess. Thank you. I found this when I needed it most Amanda. <3
