Feelings may be mysterious and intangible, but they're just a natural consequence of sensory experience. The way to better understand feelings is by paying closer attention to what your body feels, and what messages it's sending.

Make yourselves comfortable,

Take a nice breath and let go.

And here we are back in the body,

Understanding what it is to feel the moment that it begins in the body.

We notice ourselves breathing,

Engaging with the environment,

Literally taking in the environment,

Making it into us.

And that feels like something,

The breath,

The knowledge,

The feeling of acceptance,

The feeling of presence.

It's all tangible,

It's all right here.

It doesn't require any words.

You just know.

And the feeling of that knowledge is dying to be put into words.

But that's another step.

Before the words are the sensation,

I'm comfortable or I'm uncomfortable.

It's good or it's bad.

It makes me feel up or down.

Try to notice that basic distinction,

Good or bad,

Yes or no.

That is the most basic feeling of all.

And the moment will reject.

And you return to the breath,

Turn to the body.

And feel the moment.

You attend to reality without interfering,

With no agenda,

No expectation,

No preference,

But with a completely open mind,

Allowing,

Accepting,

Absorbing,

Knowing,

Paying attention.

This is the moment.

This is your moment,

Your life,

Your consciousness.

And so you breathe and you know.

And you trust your experience.

You trust your intelligence,

Your ability to understand.

Because this is your only source of knowledge,

Is attention.

What you pay attention to is what informs you.

And staying with the breath.

You feel your chest rise and fall.

Feel your tummy expand and contract.

Moment of your diaphragm.

You feel yourself staying upright,

Alert.

Your muscles,

You're aware even of your skeleton,

Your bones and joints,

Your head,

Your skull.

Your jewels,

The sense organs,

Eyes,

Ears,

Nose,

Tongue,

Your skin,

Your source of information about the world around you,

About the people around you,

About the messages around you.

And always returning to the breath.

And always returning to the breath.

Starting over again.

Just as each moment starts over.

So do you.

Each moment of you.

You take this time to be conscious,

To be in your body and your feelings and this moment.

Knowing that you can't always be here.

You have ideas to think,

Dreams to pursue and memories to learn from and to share.

And while these take you away from the present moment,

It doesn't mean you stay away.

You come back.

With a single breath,

You can come back.

Remember,

Ground yourself.

And then continue.

Just as the breath comes and goes.

So your sensory attention comes and goes towards your cognitive attention,

Which is different,

But it's still a form of attention,

Still a form of consciousness,

Still a part of you.

Still requires careful management.

Staying with the breath.

Recollecting the breath.

Just knowing that the breath is right there,

Always available,

Right now.

One in-breath brings you to your senses.

Reminds you who you are,

Where you're going,

What you want to do with this moment,

This life,

With yourself.

And the breath comes and goes.

And you come and go with each breath,

In each moment.

Now taking three more breaths,

Open your eyes.

Perfect.
