Our senses are an incredibly complex aspect of our physiology and an excellent resource for bringing ourselves into the present moment, especially if you find yourself stuck in rumination or anxious about the future. In this meditation, we’ll take five minutes to tune into the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Quick, simple, and super effective! Music by Chris Collins Image by Ksenia Kartasheva

Hi,

My name is Asa,

Welcome to this take 5 guided meditation.

In this meditation,

We'll take 5 minutes to tune into the 5 senses.

Our senses are an excellent resource for bringing ourselves into the present moment.

Please come to a comfortable seat.

For now,

Leave your eyes open with a soft gaze on the floor in front of you.

Allow your breath to flow in and out at a relaxed and comfortable pace.

We'll begin with the sense of sight.

Notice everything within your field of vision.

Observe the colors,

Shapes,

Textures,

Shadows,

And light.

Allow any thoughts to pass while you maintain a judgment-free awareness of the space around you.

Gently close your eyes and shift your awareness to your sense of sound.

Notice any sounds nearby and sounds further away.

Different sounds like a fan,

As well as any fleeting sounds like birds chirping outside.

Listen closely to the sounds around you.

Bring your focus to your sense of smell.

Notice any smells around you.

Your breath might deepen as you focus on searching for scents.

Allow any thoughts to pass as you focus on your sense of smell.

Next,

Shift your awareness to your sense of taste.

Notice if there are any tastes in your mouth.

Become aware of the moisture in your mouth and the feeling of your tongue against your teeth.

And last but certainly not least,

Bring your attention to your sense of touch.

Tune in to all of the points of contact between your body and the chair or the floor.

Notice the warmth where your hands meet your lap and the other connections among your body,

Like where your arms meet your sides or where your thighs or ankles touch.

Relax your focus and take a moment of gratitude for your senses.

Thank you for practicing this Take 5 guided meditation.

I wish you a wonderful rest of your day.
