Take a moment to get comfortable,
Either sitting on a meditation cushion or a block or the floor,
Or alternatively sit in a straight backed chair with your feet flat on the floor.
Lifting your spine,
Lifting your crown,
Like somebody's lifting a string of pearls,
And plant the sit bones into whatever is beneath you.
Take a deep breath in,
And on the exhale,
Allow your eyes to close,
And allow your shoulders to soften.
Now do that one more time.
Inhale long,
Slow,
Deep,
And exhale also long,
Slow,
Deep,
And allow your shoulders to become even more soft.
Give yourself permission now to arrive right here,
To really be right here for these next few minutes.
And as you do start to arrive right here and right now in your mind,
Also give your body permission to arrive,
Maybe taking a little bit of movement,
Allowing the body to speak what it needs to speak in this moment through movement.
If your body was going to express itself through any gentle movement,
What would it express?
Would you like to sway the spine from side to side?
Perhaps moving the head like a pendulum,
Dropping one ear to one shoulder,
And the other ear to the other shoulder with the chin,
Just dropping to the chest in between sides.
Maybe the shoulders want to shrug and then release.
And starting to soften that movement and come towards stillness now.
As you breathe in through the nostrils,
Imagine you can breathe in directly to the brain.
And then on the exhale,
Imagine or visualize that breath like an electrical current,
All that energy that was pent up in the mind,
Just earthing itself down into the ground now through your spine.
That's it,
Just like that.
Inhale straight into the brain,
Straight through the nose and exhale long and slow,
Releasing all the electricity,
All the energy,
Back to the earth.
And just notice the stillness.
Take a moment to sit in that stillness,
Stillness of body,
Stillness of body,
Stillness of mind.
The only thing that's moving is the breath.
And you're going to practice putting the brakes on now,
Giving your system the permission to stop trying,
Stop pushing,
Stop striving for the next thing or to reach the goal.
Instead of already living in the next moment of your life,
Simply slow time right down now and allow yourself to exist in this moment.
And then you can just relax.
Allow yourself to exist in this moment.
Pay attention to what that's like for you now.
How does this idea or this permission to put the brakes on affect or change your physiology?
Become aware of what it's like in your physical form to consciously put the brakes on.
Maybe it's like resting deeply into the body now.
Maybe it's like sitting back in your body,
Like you're leaning back into the comfort and stability of a really well-loved body.
Into the comfort and stability of a really well-loved armchair.
One that fits you and supports you just right.
Notice what it's like for you to really put the brakes on to lean out of this moment.
To lean out of all doing and getting and wanting and attaching.
And instead just to be.
What's that like for you in your physiology?
How does that change for you?
How does your physical form shift into this being?
Being.
Some people notice this as if they're able to connect more easily with the back of their body.
Some people notice a natural,
Easeful softening of the face and behind the eyes.
You might sense this as a profound realignment of your mind with your heart.
Often I know when I'm there because I experience a rush of emotion,
Sometimes showing up as tears or an overwhelming sense of joy or connectedness.
Maybe you begin to notice that you can observe the world allowing your environment to continue existing without you having to be involved constantly.
You can see the world as a whole,
And you can see the world as a whole.
You can see the world as a whole.
You can see the world as a whole with nowhere you can go.
The world that's FIRE Speakerised.
You can see the world that's original and new and that's committed to you.
And you can see the world CupAudition that you are put on by you and every single one of us that is exposed to you,
The world in favour of you.
Are you able to stay in this connected,
Slowed down in time moment for just a little bit longer?
Maybe you can sit back into that armchair of the body for just three breaths at a time.
You might notice that over time,
Your handbrake might start to slip off as you begin to drift into thought or attachment,
Desire or achievement.
If this happens,
Simply bring yourself back to this place of pause of sitting back into the armchair of the body,
Of leaning out rather than leaning in.
Notice that when you do this,
You enter a place of being in flow with your surroundings.
And if and when you feel ready,
You might choose to begin exploring this mindfulness practise with your eyes open as well.
Maybe opening your eyes gently and softly and seeing if you can maintain this sense of allowing experience to flow past you or to flow through you without having to or trying to be part of it all the time.
Again,
If the handbrake slips off and you start to lean into experience or sit forward out of your armchair,
If you start to want to place yourself into the movie frames,
Simply bring your awareness back to the physiology of what it feels like in your body to have your handbrake on and realign yourself into that physiology.
And closing down the eyes again whenever you feel ready.
And as this meditation comes towards a close,
Know that you can choose to continue exploring this sense of having the handbrake on at any point throughout your day.
Noticing how it feels in the body when you have your handbrake off.
Noticing those moments when you are pushing,
Trying,
Wanting,
Striving,
Attaching.
And simply know that you can bring yourself back to this place,
Back to this physiology of having the handbrake on.
So perhaps taking a short moment now to consider a moment in the upcoming day or in the upcoming time where you might get lost in doing or trying or wanting.
And imagine yourself in that moment now,
Just regaining this posture,
Regaining this alignment,
Regaining the shape and the feeling of having your handbrake on.
In that moment,
Knowing that you can lean back out of your moment by moment experience at any time,
Whenever you need to.
Bringing more joy,
More flow,
More connectedness into your day.
May you enjoy having your handbrake on more and more often.
