This is the live meditation session from 4.21.2021. This is intended to mend your relationship with trauma, pain, and suffering. We recognize our tendencies to run away from our emotions and remind ourselves that it is safe to feel what our bodies are asking us to feel. This is a practice, so I encourage you to add this patience and kindness into our daily life and self-talk. I hope this provides some space for you to feel and heal.

That can be a huge source of the pain is not wanting to accept the things that have happened already and that resistance.

And if you've been on my insight timer page at all,

My favorite thing to do when I make meditations is pain relieving meditations.

And it's the same sort of idea of that a lot of the pain,

A lot of the suffering we experience is resistance to what's actually has happened or what is happening currently.

So when we talk about pain,

That is a very current thing.

We're feeling if we have a headache,

A lot of that pain is because we really don't want to have that headache right now.

And when we talk about it in terms of past events that have happened,

Can leave us really stuck in those feelings of what should have happened or what we would have liked to have happened instead.

So trauma is a very relevant topic because we are all living through it together right now.

And I think if it's not being talked about widely now,

I think definitely within a few years,

There's going to be a lot of,

I think it's going to be very commonplace to have trauma healing centers and trauma healing groups because we are living through a collective traumatic experience,

Everyone in this whole world.

So we're going to need some tools to help manage that and community and some insights.

So when you're ready,

You can get to a comfortable position and you can be in your bed if that's where you are.

You can be sitting on the couch,

On the floor,

Or you can be sitting on the couch on the floor.

You can even listen to this if you're like doing things,

If you're kind of like cleaning your house or whatever,

Just have it on in the background.

I hope it'll be helpful to you no matter how you listen.

So when you arrive into a place of comfort,

And if you're in a space where you feel safe to do so,

You can allow your eyes to gently close.

And you can mark your arrival to the space you're in with a cleansing breath if that is something that sounds nice to you.

A long,

Deep,

And slow inhale in through the nose,

Feeling that air fill you up.

And then as you exhale,

Letting that go slowly,

Letting all the air slip through the air,

Letting all the air slowly exit the body,

And maybe pushing a little bit extra air out of you even once you think you're empty,

To just fully empty yourself and then pause.

And just observe,

Observe that stillness in between the inhale and exhale,

And letting your breath return to a natural state whenever you're ready.

If you want to take more cleansing breaths,

If that feels like something you need today,

Then please feel free to do so.

But know that it's focusing on the breath is not necessarily a relaxing or grounding practice for everyone.

And this can totally depend on your life experience and things that you have gone through.

So the breath isn't everyone's key to relaxing.

So be very kind to yourself.

If you,

If you are having trouble focusing on the breath,

Or if that's not your thing,

And just be kind to yourself throughout this entire practice and throughout your lives with whatever comes up for you.

Know that there is a reason for the things you experience.

You are not crazy,

You are not wildly different than others.

So if the breath is something that is not nice for you to focus on,

Then you can try bringing your attention to other places.

So for some,

Focusing on the palms of your hands can be really helpful,

Grounding and relaxing,

Feeling the pulse in the palms of the hands and the fingers.

Sometimes bringing your attention to your forehead and feeling the space between the eyebrows can be nice.

Maybe your stomach,

Maybe your feet.

You can kind of explore your own body.

All the cues I'm going to be giving today are going to be very open ended.

And I'll give you a lot of options of places you can focus because we are all very similar,

But we are all old smitley different in what our specific keys are to enter into a state of relaxation and receptivity.

So coming at this from an approach of curiosity,

And just being curious of what is the most curiosity and just being curious of what your body needs from you today,

What your body is asking for.

As we come into a state where hopefully we'll be able to hear those requests a little bit with more clarity.

So you can start to relax your forehead and your eyebrows and then relax your forehead and eyebrows even more.

It's hard to bring attention to all the muscles that are in your forehead and your eyebrows.

And just let them know that it is safe to let go.

It is safe to not grip tightly.

It is safe to simply just be there is nothing required of the muscles in your forehead and your eyebrows.

And then let that message spread into your eyelids and all those muscles along your lash line that can scrunch up when you squint,

You can feel those muscles soften even more.

So that it feels like the corners of your body are just like the corners of your body.

And the eyelids just resting gently over the eyeballs.

Letting all of that softness continue to sink down your face,

As you relax your cheeks,

You allow your jaw to hang into place.

You release any tension in your tongue,

Even in your teeth and your gums,

The floor of your mouth and the roof of your mouth,

The insides of the lips and cheeks and the outsides of the lips and cheeks.

When you feel a sense of stillness wash over your face and any expression that was on your face just melts away.

Letting your ears relax,

Letting your eyes relax,

Letting your hairline and scalp let go of that need to hold that constant tension on the skull itself.

And then let all of that softness and stillness from the head start to melt down further down the neck and spreading across your shoulders,

Across your shoulder blades,

Across your collarbones,

So that you feel a sense of broadness and expansion across the collarbones.

You feel a sense of relaxation and heaviness in the shoulders,

So you allow just a tiny bit more space in between your shoulders and your ears,

And you allow your neck to get just a little bit longer.

As you feel the crown of your head extend away from your seat a little bit more.

Start to tune into the rhythm of your heartbeat.

And even if you have maybe an irregular heartbeat or anything going on with your physical heart,

Tuning in and just trying to sync your mind up with whatever rhythm is there and releasing that need to change it or get it on a certain rhythm of how we think our heart should be beating.

And just remember that our hearts are much more intelligent than our opinions are and our judgments and your heart knows how to keep you alive because it does so every moment of every day for as long as you've been alive.

So just giving some well-deserved credit and appreciation and gratitude to your physical heart.

Recognizing how your heart pumps blood throughout your entire body and recognizing the well of love that exists in your heart center.

Where our feelings of compassion,

Gratitude,

Kindness,

Light love,

Are all stored here.

So naturally those sensations can be allowed to spread throughout your entire body along with the blood that's rushing through your body.

So whatever that feels like to you,

Maybe it's a tingling warm sensation,

Maybe it's not easy to describe or put a name to,

But just start to feel all of that love in your heart spreading across the chest and down your arms,

Softening all of those muscles as it does so and coming into the palms of your hands and fingers.

So now feeling all of that love from your heart also in the palms of your hands,

Almost like your palms have a heartbeat of their own.

So now feeling all of that love from your heart,

Almost like your palms have a heartbeat of their own.

It's synced up with your physical heart.

And then allow the love,

Compassion,

Gratitude from your heart to spread down into the lungs,

Into the rib cage,

Into the stomach,

Into the back,

The organs,

The muscles on your stomach as well.

And just allowing everything about your trunk,

Everything about your torso to melt into the position that you're in,

To fully accept being where you are right now,

To fully accept the feelings that are present inside of you right now.

And allowing for any emotional releases to come,

Trusting the natural intelligence of your body and the natural intelligence of your emotions and feelings,

Sounds that are begging to exit your body.

Crying,

Laughing,

Yelling,

All of these more intense emotions,

They're just a release.

They're just thoughts and feelings and sensations inside of you that really want to get out.

And sometimes crying can be really looked down upon in our society.

For women,

We are oversensitive.

For men,

It's just not even an option,

It feels like.

It's not encouraged for men to cry.

And for women,

We're dramatic.

So all of these feelings can come up when we feel that urge to let go and to cry.

So just by being aware of that programming,

Just by being aware of that societal view on our emotions,

That can sometimes be all that we need to allow ourselves to fully let go.

And letting go of those emotions is all that is being asked of you.

Not everything necessarily needs a fix it now,

Easy fix,

Solution,

Sometimes the solution is to feel.

So letting all of that softness and compassion come into your hips.

And kind of feeling all of that love and softness and acceptance from our heads,

Shoulders,

Heart,

Hands,

Stomach,

Just inevitably sink down and rest in your hips,

In your glutes,

In your pelvic floor,

This whole really sensitive region in all of our bodies.

This goddess energy in our sacral space,

Whether no matter what gender you identify as we all have this inner goddess energy that is creative and patient and joyful.

And sometimes it can be really difficult to access those emotions,

Because our past stressors or past traumas are often stored in our hips.

I heard a teacher say,

Current stress is stored in the shoulders and past stress is stored in the hips.

And for my body that rings true.

So maybe that does for you too.

And if not,

Then just leave it.

No worries.

Just becoming curious of where your body tends to hold on to things.

Maybe where in your body,

You experience chronic pain or tension,

Or resistance.

And just becoming curious about what that is telling you,

Or if that's telling you anything or if that's telling you anything.

Maybe just start by asking that question.

Oftentimes,

We can feel our hips actively coming together actively resisting the feeling of opening.

So all of that same energy that we use to resist,

That we use to bring closer and tighten and hold on.

That is just energy and we can do the opposite with the same energy.

So by practicing flipping that pulling into a sort of push into a active release,

An active letting go.

So you just recognize how much energy can be spent by resisting.

And realizing how much energy we could be using for what we choose for our actual wants and needs and desires in life.

And sometimes we feel like we don't have enough time in our lives.

Because of all the distractions,

All the noise outside and therefore inside.

Sometimes,

Even taking breaks from the internet isn't really enough because our minds are just on that same pace.

Just reminding us of all the things that are happening and all the things we want to do.

So just by coming into a space where you can realize where your energy is actually going.

What do your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

Your thoughts,

What do your thoughts and your thoughts and your thoughts and your daily actions communicate to the world around you and to yourself ultimately?

So letting all that softness spread down your legs and your feet as well.

And just feeling this sense of connection to the earth that's beneath you.

And as you are working through different sensations in your body and thoughts in your mind,

Keep coming back to the fact that the earth is beneath you.

No matter if you are 100 stories up in a tall building,

Or one floor up or even underground,

Wherever you are in relationship to the earth,

You are connected to the earth.

You are held at all times.

You are safe.

And it is safe for you to feel what is in your body.

And sometimes it can be so scary and that fear of feeling what's present is it can stop you completely,

Sometimes for a really long time.

And I find that oftentimes the fear of feeling is a lot worse than the actual feelings themselves.

And by mending our relationship with emotional releases,

Such as crying,

Yelling,

Maybe punching pillows,

Screaming in your car,

Whatever the release needs to be,

By letting ourselves have those releases when we need them,

You would be very surprised or maybe you are surprised how much energy that frees up for you and how much better you feel afterwards when the storm is over.

Because every single storm runs out of rain.

It has to.

It's just the way it works.

As you think back to different pain and suffering that you have experienced before,

Or are currently experiencing the everyday microaggressions and the everyday traumas that many people in our society suffer from.

Actually,

I think everyone suffers from them,

Even if you don't directly,

If you're not directly impacted by them.

Fear is a part of you just by living in this society that is affected by the traumas that our country is suffering from by the pain and suffering of our brothers and sisters everywhere.

So knowing it is safe to feel compassion,

It is safe to feel empathy and the pain,

It's safe to feel the pain and the suffering of our brothers and sisters.

It's safe to feel the pain and suffering of yourself and your own life.

It's learning to mend our relationship with pain and suffering.

Oftentimes we are told that it's not good to feel pain,

Painkillers,

This opioid epidemic that is a reflection of what we tell ourselves and what we tell each other.

Oh,

You shouldn't be in any pain.

You shouldn't be feeling pain.

If you're feeling pain,

Then you can't heal properly and all these false narratives I'm coming to believe.

Pain is a reminder that we are alive.

Pain is a reminder that we are here,

We can feel things.

It's a reminder of the contrast in life.

And if you're having trouble kind of accepting that pain and suffering are some things that are safe to experience and are necessary to experience,

Then start to think about what would you want instead?

Is your preference to feel joy and happiness and bliss all the time,

Every moment of every day?

Because if that was your actual experience,

Nothing would really feel joyful ultimately.

It all would just become one tone and you would not appreciate the feelings of joy and pleasure without experiencing the amount of pain and suffering that we do.

So by giving yourself the grace and the space to allow yourself to feel pain and suffering and sad things that we really want to run away from,

By tuning into your brave heart and looking instead of running,

Feeling instead of running,

It is a beautiful thing,

A beautiful reminder of how the pendulum will always swing.

The pendulum swings all the way to the worst pain and suffering experience that you have had.

It ultimately has to swing back to feelings of bliss and joy.

Just trusting that everything that you've ever experienced was meant for you to experience.

Reminding yourself of the miracle that you are,

Not anyone else,

Not thinking of anyone else or comparing yourself to anyone else,

But you.

Feel your hands,

Feel your heart,

Feel your forehead,

Feel your spinal cord,

Feel the length of your spine,

Feel the connection from your seat to your stomach,

To your heart,

Through your neck,

To your brain,

To your bones,

To your muscles,

To your skin,

Feeling your physical,

Beautiful miracle of a body.

Just take a moment to remember all of the gifts that you have.

Sometimes we hyper-focus on the pain we've experienced,

And that is okay at times,

As long as we ultimately come back to what we have to be so grateful for,

That we didn't necessarily do anything to deserve.

There's pure gifts of life.

The fact of our heart beating,

The fact of our lungs breathing,

Our stomach digesting,

Our mind thinking,

Our ears hearing,

Our eyes seeing whatever it is that we see,

Our nose smelling,

Our mouth tasting,

And our skin feeling.

Not everyone has these things.

And they are things to be truly and deeply grateful for.

And just remember that you are very loved.

If you have these gifts,

If you can hear these words,

If you can be in this space,

You are extremely loved,

My guess,

By many different souls.

These words can be a direct communication to you from your spirits,

From your guides,

From your ancestors that are watching over you and just want to let you know that they are here.

They see you.

They're supporting you.

They are in awe of you and the way that you live and your resilience.

They know that life can get really,

Really difficult,

But you are still here.

You're showing up.

You're making time for yourself.

And you don't have to do this alone.

The answers that you seek are within you.

They're trying to be communicated to you through just bodily sensations,

Through music,

Through random thoughts,

Through random overheard conversations,

All these different ways that spirit has a way of communicating to us.

As long as we are open to receiving that and kind to ourselves when we don't or when we forget,

When we ignore the signs and feelings for myself,

That often can keep me away from learning the lessons that are being asked of me because I get very hard on myself for forgetting and for not or for actively not listening,

Which we can do that self-sabotage cycle.

That is okay.

That's also a part of it.

That doesn't have to stop you from doing the next best thing for you or for beginning to listen.

It's never too late to change.

Take this time now to truly feel and allow yourself to feel love.

Allow yourself to feel supported on all sides,

In all realms.

Anyone that you have ever loved and even ones that you might not have met before,

Just ancestors of you that lived their life so that you could live your life now.

That unconditional love,

That unconditional patience,

Understanding,

Support.

And know that you are worthy of feeling these things simply by being here.

There's nothing else you have to do.

Just letting yourself be hugged by this love.

Just like every little pore on your skin is being kissed by this love.

If it feels like something you'd like to do,

You could bring your hands to a place on your body and maybe just letting your hands go where they want to go.

Maybe a hand on the heart and a hand on the belly.

Maybe both hands on the heart,

Both hands on the belly.

Maybe on your face,

On your shoulders,

Just wherever your hands feel gravitated toward,

Trust that natural intelligence,

That your hands know where they're needed.

Or maybe your hands just want to stay off your body,

That's okay too.

Wherever your hands are,

Just start to feel the power of your hands,

The pulse of your hands,

The heartbeat of your hands,

And the love that is just always exuding from you.

And giving that love to yourself.

Feeling that love feed into your body,

Feed into your soul,

Your very being,

Receiving this love.

Knowing that this love is always here.

Whether you feel it or not,

It is here for you.

Maybe starting to consciously call more air into your body and feel the air,

This life force energy filling you up even more.

Maybe bringing your hands to prayer at heart center if that feels like something you want to do.

And just feeling the contact of your palms and fingers feeding into each other,

Creating a circle of this energy around your heart.

And gently bowing your head.

Bowing to your highest self that led you to this practice,

Bowing to the energy that created you,

To the ancestors and spirits that watch over you and guide you,

To everyone in this space who has opened themselves up to receive this practice by your side.

And finally just to yourself for being,

For receiving.

May this practice continue to heal you through the rest of your days and your nights.

And may you bring this love into everything that you do and to everyone that you see.

Namaste.

Really wonderful. Thankyou. Just a note that the 'opioid endemic' is what the government calls an introduced drug that is now to be withdrawn. Vilification. Opioids really allow some folks access to mobility and or rest. Thankyou
